Candidate For Congress
California 47th Congressional District
(includes Long Beach, Los Alamitos, Cypress, Stanton, Garden Grove & Westminster)
As a candidate for Congress, I firmly support the following:
-
• A Flat Rate Income Tax between 15 to 17% with a large standard deduction indexed to inflation. Our current tax code does not encourage saving, investment and wealth creation.
• Complete elimination of the Death Tax (Inheritance Tax). It's your (already taxed) money---keep it.
• Education doesn't need more money---it needs more competition. I strongly support Vouchers. Let parents or guardians decide where to send their kids to school (public or private).
• Increased Domestic Oil Production utilizing the latest safety technology, to lessen our dependence on foreign oil and make us more secure. Our GOAL as a country should be to make OPEC irrelevant.
• Term Limits on U.S. Senators and Congressmen. I believe in the citizen politician not the professional career politician.
No matter what policies Washington, D.C. puts in place to solve our massive deficits and debt problems, without strong and vibrant economic growth, any improvement in our country's economic health will be fleeting.
To get our economy galloping again and increasing employment opportunities, we must focus on the Real Engines of economic growth---the men and women (entrepreneurs) who wish to pursue their dreams and operate their own businesses. You can't encourage new business formation (and new employment) by burdening productive innovators. Policies that "redistribute the wealth" only lead to the destruction of wealth.
Taxation policy should be focused to unleash the human potential and turn personal aspirations and ambitions into positive achievements (new businesses). We must turn our attention to the "road not taken">>>the road of growth economics. The current policy of "shared sacrifice" is a defeatist policy. At its core is a negative rot. The economic policies of growth offer a clear vision for the future of this country.
Washington can help the economy with serious fiscal restraint, permanent tax rate cuts, regulatory relief and repeal of ObamaCare. What won't help growth and employment opportunities are more temporary, targeted political tax policies.
Individuals without a goal are like a piece of wood floating in the sea being moved aimlessly by the currents. They have no direction. Similarly, a political and economic system without a goal is also adrift and can move in ways that maybe harmful long term to the society. The GOAL of political policy is to give individuals the incentives and opportunities to grow and prosper within the Rule of Law and the bounds of morality. Anything other than this will slowly eat away at the fabric of freedom and opportunity in American society.
I appreciate your vote and any financial support you can provide.
Sanford Kahn, Candidate for Congress
PS People have asked me what are my qualifications to hold a Congressional office? In a half joking response I tell them two things. First, I am not an incumbent and secondly, I am not a lawyer. I received my engineering degree from the University of Florida in 1969 and came to Long Beach in April, 1969 to start work at McDonnell Douglas Corporation. Like most engineers, I have made a major career change. For the past 17 years I have been self-employed as a business author and professional speaker. Unemployment for me gave me the opportunity to change my direction.
